Taylor Haynes, who finished a distant second in a three way GOP primary race for governor, announced Wednesday morning that he will run again as a write in candidate.
I realize that filing as a write in violates the unity pledge I signed at the GOP convention, Haynes said in a statement, referring to a pledge he signed in May in Evanston promising he would support the winner of the August primary. However, the right of taxpayers to have their vote counted trumps politics.
I am a statesman, not a politician, and I have a deep, abiding respect for our Constitution and the right to have representation for those taxpayers determined to write my name in during the November election, Haynes said in the statement. Therefore, I am compelled to file as a write in candidate for governor so their votes will be counted.
Peggy Nighswonger, the state elections director, said anyone has the right to ask pepatagonia girls jackets cheap2ople to write their name on the ballot. They do not officially file any paperwork to run as a write in.
On election night, if the number of write ins exceeds the vote total of the victor among candidates whose names were printed on the ballot, the Wyoming Secretary of State s Office will ask the counties if one person received all the write ins.
Anyone can pay an administrative fee with the secretary s office to find out exactly how many people voted for them, which Haynes did in 2010, Nighswonger said. That number typically comes out after election night.
