UPDATE: Calling a racially provocative editorial in the Lake Worth Herald reprehensible, state Sen. Jeff Clemens announced Thursday that he was canceling his subscription to the historic weekly newspaper.
Clemens statement came in response to a question on Facebook from a Lake Worth resident. Clemens responded, in part:

Controversy surrounding the paper s unsigned editorial has built since its publication on Oct. 23, with some Lake Worth residents criticizing it as a racist attack.
L ake Worth s historic hometown newspaper is taking heat for publishing a rant against the town s large population of Guatemalan immigrants, accusing them of spong(ing) off the society.
In an editorial published Oct. 23, the Lake Worth Herald accuses illegal immigrants from Guatemala of rais(ing) the cost of basic services for everyone without contributing themselves.
It goes on to lecture that they need to learn it is not ok to use the backyard as a bathroom and leave the toilet in the house plugged up.

That incident is under investigation, and activists have called for the deputy to be disciplined.
In its editorial, the Herald criticizes the Lake Worth based Guatemalan Maya Center, a non profit group that assists Guatemalan immigrants.
If in fact the (Guatemalan Mayan Center) initiated these complaints and protests or even condones them, they should have all public sources of funding withheld, the editorial states. Law abiding taxpayers should not have their hard earned money promoting filth.

One resident called it disgusting. Another said that it was bigoted garbage.
The Herald, one of Florida s oldest weeklies, began publishing in 1912. It is Lake Worth s newspaper of record, publishing the city government s public notices.

I think people have become frustrated and angry with those people who have changed their communities in a negative way and if they complain of unpleasant culturpatagonia stealth atom sling pack for saleal practices they are labeled racists. No one should comment if they have not experienced living in the same situation. It is fine to sit back and say they shouldn t feel that way. I don t think it is too much to ask that the number of people in residential areas be restricted per residence. The sanitary conditions can be horrendous otherwise. I would suggest listening to the complaints issued rather than automatically assuming racism is the root cause. When the Olympics were held in China, their citizens had to be instructed not to spit on sidewalks. When Somolians came here to work they had to be taught to set aside aggressive attitudes in order to improve their relationships with their coworkers.
Whoever wrote this speaks the truth! Whomever is against this probably lives in a neglected area and has their head up their anus. I have seen nothing but crime and filth coming from the areas where coincidentally a majority of the population is Latino and African American. It s not racism it s a given fact. Look it up. for one I want to say when my husband lost his job after years of paying taxes we were denied any kind of help from our government funding . I am not Latina but I have travelled throughout Europe, the Caribbean and South and Central America. For your information, some of the cleanest people are from the Third World . There are Americans that do not take daily showers, smells bad and live like animals. Some of them are right here in Florida, Appalachia, the deep South. Very good editorial! It s all true, and the only ones who disagree are the culprits, who have only been in this country for a generation, or less. Learn American culture, become a legal citizen, pay taxes, and THEN, you can EARN the respect and equality that you think you deserve. If that s not an option you are willing to consider, then go back to your native third world country. We didn t invite you here to ruins ours, like you ruined yours.
