I think it is a hybrid. Asus board with VIA KM 400 chipset, but newer VIA Southbridge than the A7V8X MX. The A7V8X MX has the old Southbridge (VT8235CE) while the A7V8X LA has the new Southbridge (VT8237). This motherboard gains 2 more USB ports, 2 firewire ports, and 2 SATA connections.
Anyone know how to turn on AGP Fast Writes on this Compaq setup with a Radeon 9600 in the AGP slot? I m trying to get WMP9 HDTV files to run at 1080P, but without fast writes I m getting lots of dropped frames due to 100% CPU cycles. from ASUS. Board installed in a HP PC.
For ref., these MBs are made by ASUS under contract from HP. ASUS will disown them as retail MBs that they support.
As far as any advanced BIOS setting adjustment capability forget it! My opinion is HP is trying to save a couple of bucks by using a stripped down AMI BIOS. They also purposely don t want to give their home based predominately novice users the capablity of hosing their systems. Forget asking HP/Compaq anything on this subject. The boys in India don t have a clue what you are talking about. On my HP system, pressing F11 at the logo boot screen will get me into any advanced BIOS settings that exist.
You might want to check with one on the third party BIOS mfgs. on what an Award BIOS chip would cost for your MB. ASUpatagonia hats cheapS uses Award BIOS on most of their retail A7 MBs. My guess is the third partypatagonia everlong review sheet2 BIOShiking patagonia without guide chip will cost almost as much as a full retail MB. There is software available on the web that will allow some advanced settings that apatagonia chile houses for salere activated at WIN boot time. Check the NVidia web site for their system utility. It will allow for some limited WIN activated BIOS advanced settings. On my PC that consists of AGP bandwidth, FSB, and basic memory timings.

My friend gave me a Hp With this mobo in it and the power supply was shot so i replaced it. I dont have a good video card yet but i put my visiontek 9250 in it (pci). I get nothing when i fire it up. My monitor says no sync input. How do i get started. that is the first thing i need to do. I tired clearing the cmos but i forgot how. i know you move the jumper, but do you turn it on or do you leave it off for a little while? Oh yeah it has a cover over the factory vga output that says do not remove can i use it to get it going if so how. Do i need to get any downloads for the bios or what

You can use the Sata ports with hard drives. I know because I ve done it. you have to make sure that the drives run at 1.5gbps (SATA I) speeds the board won t recognize the drive if it runs faster.
